From Nov 11-22, the “Miracle Of Surin Elephants Fair 2016” will be held at the elephant show field of Surin province. The event promotes local tourism and conserves the local way of life in which people and elephants live together happily.

Activities include a parade of vehicles decorated with elephant food around the statue of former Surin governor Phraya Surinpakdi Srinarong Jangwang on Nov 17 and a parade of over 200 pachyderms on Thong San Road to the compound of the same statue for a buffet for them on Nov 18. Tourists can feed the elephants as well.

In addition, there will be the display of the lifestyle of elephant mahouts, a demonstration of an elephant’s back battles, elephant capturing and related rituals, an elephant agility show and Northeastern performances on Nov 19-20.

Before or after the fair, tourists can visit Ban Ta Klang, an elephant village, the Surin National Museum, Ban Tha Sawang, a silk weaving village, Phanom Sawai Forest, Ta Muen Ancient Khmer Sanctuary and Chong Chom Border Market.
