Nowadays, Thailand is a leader in the tourism industry covering the South East Asia region, as the region’s popularity surges.

In 2015 the number of international tourist arrivals was 29.88 million, an increase of 5.10 million (20.58%). In the first 7 months of 2016 from January to July, the number of international tourist arrivals was 19.54 million, equivalent to an 11.87% increase.

The top three tourism nationalities arriving in Thailand are from China, Malaysia and South Korea. The highest spending tourists are from China, Russia and Malaysia.

With the rapidly increasing number of tourists, the tourism ministry has moved to place importance on tourists’ safety and security as the first priority, in order to build the confidence of all and build the good image of tourism within the country.

Mr. Pongpanu Svettarundra, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports unveiled the project entitled “Public relations and warnings for Tourists”. The project’s purpose is to provide information and assistance in terms of tourism warnings and safety guidance to tourists when travelling in Thailand.

SB Pongpanu Svettarundra Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Sports Mr. Pongpanu added that the Tourist Assistance Center (TAC), is responsible for coordinating tourism and solving tourism-related problems, handling tourists’ complaints and facilitating the activities of tourists.

Apart from being responsible for tourist’s safety and security, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and related agencies continuously monitor and follow any problems of theft or fraud, while protecting against those who would take wrongful advantage of tourists in different forms.
